It was less “Spring golf” and more “survival exercise” on Saturday, as a lively wind tore around the course and made club selection more guesswork than science.

Emerging best from the chaos was William Glen, whose excellent net 69 was as much an exercise in patience and control as it was shot-making. In conditions where a good strike could still end up in the next postcode, Glen managed to keep things together.

Just one shot back, Ruth McGuire claimed second place with a well-earned 71, handling the elements with admirable composure.

Also carding 71, David Sinclair took third on countback, proving that steady golf—and perhaps a bit of good fortune with the gusts—was the order of the day.

Richard Mitsch, playing off a notably low handicap, also signed for 71 to take fourth place, no doubt wondering where a couple of those well-struck shots actually finished.

With only a handful of players managing to keep scores in the low 70s, it was a day where keeping the ball on the course (never mind the fairway) felt like a victory in itself.
